Our History

Foundation and Establishment (1964-1965)

Signal Village was founded on June 8, 1964, and formally reinforced on January 25, 1965, under the leadership of Gen. Alfredo Santos. The original settlers were primarily military personnel from the four major commands of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. With support from the Signal Service Battalion and then-Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Espino, these families were relocated from UP Compound in Diliman, Quezon City, to what was known as EM's Signal Barrio. The community also welcomed civilian residents during this historic relocation.

Presidential Recognition (1965)

A dedicated group of civic-minded residents, predominantly military spouses, formed an association with a bold vision. They petitioned President Diosdado Macapagal to separate Signal Village from the military reservation and distribute the land to its actual residents. Their advocacy succeeded when President Macapagal issued Proclamation No. 462 on September 28, 1965, officially designating the area as AFP EM's Village and recognizing the community's right to the land.

Historic Land Award (1986)

A momentous milestone was achieved on January 7, 1986, when President Ferdinand E. Marcos signed Presidential Proclamation No. 2476. This decree officially separated a portion of land from the Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation—as outlined in Republic Acts 274 and 730—and awarded it directly to the legitimate and actual residents of the community, securing their land ownership rights.

Strengthened Land Rights (1987)

On October 16, 1987, President Corazon C. Aquino, with the advocacy of Atty. Dante O. Tiñga, issued Presidential Proclamation No. 172. This proclamation reinforced the previous decree by adding the crucial provision "without public bidding," ensuring that residents would not face competitive bidding for their land. Among the three barangays within the proclaimed area, Signal Village emerged as the largest, spanning approximately 160 hectares.

Achievement and Recognition (1998)

The barangay's commitment to excellence was nationally recognized in 1998 when it received the prestigious award as one of Taguig's Most Outstanding Barangays. Barangay Chairman Atty. Henry I. Dueñas was also honored as Most Outstanding Barangay Chairman, acknowledging his exceptional leadership and dedication to community service.

Evolution into Four Communities (2009)

Through Taguig City Ordinance No. 61, Series of 2009, Signal Village underwent a significant transformation. The original community was divided into four distinct barangays: Central Signal Village (the originating barangay), Katuparan, North Signal Village, and South Signal Village. This reorganization allowed each area to develop its unique identity while maintaining the shared heritage and values that define the Signal Village legacy.
